Description

A great hardneck variety that grows big plants with huge bulbs. Very popular with gardeners and market growers looking to grow the fattest bulbs with the most weight possible. Under ideal growing conditions, bulbs can grow over 3 inches and weigh over 5.5 ounces.    

King Giant is similar to other Porcelain's with its white skin that can sometimes have purple streaks. The flavour is strong when eaten raw and sweet when cooked. 

King Giant performs very well in cold and temperate climates, as well as in a wide range of soil conditions. Produces a tall, impressive plant with dark green leaves. Scape removal and good moisture are essential for maximum bulb size. 

Bulbs are uniform with large cloves (average 4 to 6 cloves/bulb). Outer bulb wrappers tend to be purplish-white (depending on soil conditions), with some rose coloring of the clove skins. Great presentation for growers selling or gardeners who want to display in their kitchen. Stores for up to 6 months.

Each pound typically has 30 to 40 cloves per pound and can plant 15-20 feet of row. Each successfully grown clove will produce one full bulb and should yield 5 times what was planted.

Zones 3 to 8 - Hardneck varieties including Big Boy require 4 to 6 weeks of temperatures below 45 degrees F in order to develop bulbs properly. For regions where winter temperatures stay too warm, a cold treatment (refrigeration) of 3 to 6 weeks for mild regions and 8+ weeks for tropical climates.
